Pashtu & Ikat
Pashtu carpets are sturdy and warm hand knotted wool carpets. The fine handspun yarn naturally varies in thickness and gives the carpets a personal and unique look. One language, one people, one cultural expression – in the Pashtu carpets history, tradition and craft skills are united. The Pashtun people can be found in Afghanistan and the west of Pakistan, an ethnic group whom for centuries has been wandering through the Middle East before settling here. The wool carpets are of course made out of the famous and high qualitative Afghan wool, but also others fibers, for example cotton and silk, are being used. With this yarn the Pahtuns knot wonderful, sturdy and exciting carpets in their own homes. The patterns and motifs can display Afghan, Persian or Turkish influences or be modern, sparse, monochrome, fanciful or in accordance with the clients request. The large movements in the area will keep bringing new influences that will enrich Pashtu carpets for many years to come.
