Ghom

The stunning Ghom carpets are extremely well-made and knotted using only the finest corkwool, from the neck of the lamb, and silk. The soft corkwool can be spun into very thin but strong threads enabling more tightly knotted carpets. The Ghom carpets are knotted in wool only, with silk elements or in 100 % silk. Ghom is situated in central Iran and the carpet knotting industry only started in the beginning of the 2000th century but they have an unmistakably native idiom, created of patterns borrowed from different parts of Iran. Medallions and figural designs with animals and flowers are common as well as garden motifs. The high knot density enables extremely detailed designs.
