Isfahan

Almost unimaginable high knot density (up to 1 000 000 knots/m2), amazingly detailed patterns, short pile and material of the highest quality are some of the features that you find in Iran’s finest carpets: the Isfahan. The carpets are knotted in silk and fine wool; often corkwool, which is the soft, fine wool from the neck of the lamb. The motif is often enhanced by using silk elements, giving the carpet an almost three dimensional effect. The Isfahan carpets come in many different sizes, though medium to large dominates. The impressive mosques, gardens and palaces of the city have been a source of inspiration in drawing the patterns and deciding the colours.
